Ugly Betty 1/11/07*
How the Ugly Betty villain-ess justifies her character's "bad" actions...plus, profiles on some other eeevils from Prison Break, Heroes, 24 and more in an article in the January 19, 2007 issue of Entertainment Weekly.
BTW, I need more of Judith Light on Ugly Betty. When I was 12 years old Who's The Boss's Angela was filming a TV movie called Wife Mother Murder: The Marie Hilley Story across from my friend Tracey Turner's house. A classic Sunday night movie about a woman so desperate for cash she burns down her house, kills her husband. It was god awful.
Tracey invited me over to watch the filming. I was so excited. All day I gawked as the crew sat around. Amazing. Then I met some chick who was playing the daughter, some set guy who actually appeared to be working gave me a tour and showed me a room that had been made to look like it had been set on fire. My big moment came when Judith Light arrived on set late that night. She had this big southern lady wig on and a robe. I saw her rehearsing in the front window, the director was showing her how to lay in a bed. Amazing.
Finally, she stepped out of the house for a break. Tracey told me to cross the street and get her autograph. The other neighbors urged me to go, now was my big chance. I mean, AAAAAANGELR from WTB was standing a tiny Atlanta street away from me and I was going to speak with her and have her sign some bullshit piece of paper!!
Yeah, not so much. I chickened out. I mean, she was a TV movie star! I was a scrawny nerd who had been watching her crew sit around all day. Plus, that wig looked like squirrels and creepy crawlers were trapped inside and I didn't want to be attacked.
Damn. Judith Light. And now she's on UB and she's amazing and has a great haircut and just rocks it. Here's to hoping she gets Nick'd up for some additional episodes this season. One of my favorite fictional recovering (and failing) alcoholics. Plus, her current TV son, Eric Mabius, is way hotter than WTB son, Danny Pintauro. And probably less gay. And no sweeping bangs.
*This line is not that funny written out. But it was delivered beautifully in episode. And, it's kind of acurate. I mean, outlet malls? Exactly! Fat people? Um, yeah. Does that make me "Wihelmina shallow?"

But did you see Judith Light in Wit, off Broadway, a few years ago? GENIUS. She was a theater diva even before WTB!!
NO!! I never saw her in Wit, but I heard - "real good." Love her.
